Thoughts Concerning Goldsmiths Rave Idea
Could we specify what we'd actually be trying to find out regarding the rave/musical defiance idea? I doubt that Goldsmiths/students would be that bothered by people just playing music on the green but a full setup might attract interest. So is this actually about music then or just that Goldsmiths might not like people using equipment like smoke machines/speakers and their electricity on their property? Also, we already know that Goldsmith's field isn't a place that people expect to witness a rave, so are we really learning or testing anything? Surely it would be better to test the limits of what people are willing to accept in places where free musical expression is supposedly encouraged? I don't think its a bad idea and I understand that we only have a week and that it would be fairly simple to carry out which is good, I'm just raising some questions so that we know what political discoveries we're actually trying to make.

Good thinking, we do have to have direction. Although after 1hour I think its great we have something exciting and achievable.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it is about fucking off Goldsmiths, I think the idea of defiance is in the spirit of the project but perhaps not the purpose?
I'm more interested in exploring the everyday politics of music and how that impacts on our experience of identity and community and whether that is fostered in our neo-liberal, individualist, consumer culture.
ya get me?
I think we are yet to decide what we are trying to achieve, but it is ultimately essential that we do. If we all think about those questions hopefully there will be a cohesive line somewhere.
